The Salton Sea

The Salton Sea was the most desolate place ever, very strange.  We stopped at a park area near the water and Jeremy and I went walking along the water, gross. the sand or what should be sand was all these little barnacle like things like sea shells or something but ones I had never seen before.  there where tons of fish heads and fish bones too.  It was a very weird place full of death.
The only thing that was alive out there were a few huge pelicans and some palm trees. We went into a town called Bombay Beach, all it had were mobile homes and a huge cell phone tower.  It was the sort of place where a horror movie would take place.  That Night we stayed at an RV place that had hot Springs mineral baths. That was really nice and we met some nice old people from Minnesota that winter in that RV park.  The next day we went to a place called Slab City.
It was the RV city in the movie Into The Wild where the main character stays and meets a girl.  We also went to a place from the movie called Salvation Mountain next to Slab city which is a crazy piece of art dedicated to god.  A really cute  little old man built it and gave us a tour, told us a number of times how exited he was that the movie had brought so many visitors. It is a mountain made out of hay bales, adobe,  paint and other found objects like car doors and windows all of which he found out in the desert. I am glad that I had a chance to see this area but I probably will never go there again.

  2. what a weird old man, and how super cool that you got a personal tour. there are so many trippy nooks and crannies in this country! the pics really leave me with the quiet, empty feeling that you are describing. im stoked with how many you put up, I thought you could only do 5 per post when I was making my travel blog...
